Fishing Report 07/15/2025
Hello from the canyon. A quick update on the recent fishing.
We’ve entered the middle of the summer. Air temps have been on the warm side. Highs ranging from the mid 80s to lower 90s. Much better than the several days we had in the triple digits last July. Nights have been cooling off nicely into the upper 50s. This keeps our water temps in the 59-62 range. We have a cold snap and moisture on the way so things are looking good on this river for the rest of the summer.
Todays weather at the lodge calls for rain and more rain.
So far this season, hatches are starting a week or two earlier than normal. Tricos have kept that pattern going. The hatch has been very strong this year. Clouds of Tricos in their mating flight are seen on most mornings. All of those spinners are hitting the water early to mid morning giving the trout a buffet line. PMD’s are still around and showing up some days mid morning all the way into the afternoon. Caddis are on the menu as well. The terrestrial game is warming up as well.
Zoom in …. take a look at all the Tricos that landed within moments after parking at the boat ramp.
All this brings us to the theme of the season, dry flies. Fish spinners and cripples to Trico sippers. Fish flat laying caddis to splashy caddis eaters. Fish ants and hoppers blind on shallow flats. FISH THEM ALL DAY RIGHT NOW!
If you must…nymphing is good with shallow rigs. No weight, it’s weedy. Small indicators or pinch ons. A couple of small epoxy jigs, Frenchies, soft hackles. They all have their moments. Shallow run Zirdles with a small nymph or zebra midge is good as well.
Evenings and late evenings are great streamer times. Lots of willing participants with low light.
Look for more educational blogs coming soon. Watch our social media for updates on the lodge and new clubhouse. We have a few slots left open this season, email or call for availability. We’re also booking out next season so if you have a specific time you like, don’t wait, book now.
See you on the river!
