Let’s Talk Single Angling

Greetings from the Canyon!

We’ve been on the show circuit the last couple of months. We have one more to go in April in Utah. The Wasatch Fly Tying Expo April 10th and 11th.  After that, we start our lodge season on April 19th.  Things are moving rapidly towards our opener and we’re very excited to get our season under way!

As we’ve been on the road this year and in year’s past, we get asked about being a single angler. In the float fishing business, most of our pricing is based on double occupancy. Drift boats are set up for two anglers; lodge rooms and cabins are also set up for two anglers. So, someone that does not have a friend or relative that fly fishes, winds up paying close to the same price as two anglers. That makes it hard to find affordable options for singles.

There are also exceptions. Some people want to fish as a single boat. If you’re solo in a boat, you get all the shots during dry fly season. We have duos that fish with us and get two guides so they can be in the front of the boat all day. That’s somewhat common with our hard core dry fly anglers, getting the boat to themselves, so they don’t mind paying extra to do that.

So, for those anglers that don’t mind sharing a boat and want to avoid the single angler rate, we’re starting a Boat Pairing List. You can go to our website and add your contact information and a time frame you are looking to fish. Then when we get another angler looking for the same time frame, we’ll connect the two of you. You can reach that page here: Single Angler Inquiry This list will be a great way for singles who are looking for an affordable lodge experience to find a fishing partner to lower the cost for each other!

Quick updates on other lodge adjacent things . . .

  • A big snowstorm this week bumped some local snowpacks over 100%! We love that water.

  • Kitchen remodel is getting Becky’s expert finishing touches as we speak.

  • New guest cabin due in early April.

  • Warren and I are chasing Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit this month. More on that later.

  • The second annual Wetfly Swing Dry Fly School in late July will kick off with another trip giveaway.  Watch for that on a new episode of Wetfly Swing Podcast with Dave Stewart at the end of the month.

  • We also have a couple other exciting events we will be announcing in the coming weeks for the lodge this season. Stay tuned!

Cheers!
